Robert Hugh Cammock, 60

It is most fitting that Robert’s funeral is being held in The David O McKay Building. A building that surely would have been a pile of rubble if not for his raised voice. Although I have never met Robert Cammock in this life I feel akin spirit has moved on to help others in pursuit of good and noble causes. I have seen and felt his light from a far.  Those of you family and friends who have been enveloped by the light of this good man are much blessed. I look forward to the day when I can sit down with your father and husband and get to know each other better. Kia Kaha.

Te Karere

Kia ora whanaunga’s ?

Yesterday I was late to uplift a friend Paul FRANCIS for a horse trek. Upon doing so I found him to be in conversation with Ralph HAMON who shared some light and truth on the matter of demolishing CCNZ as conveyed to him and a select few ( envisioning committee ) directly from  the Prophet Thomas S. MONSON and the Apostle Henry B EYRING when they were recently in NZ.

Ralph informed that he and those who were against the demolition of the CCNZ buildings which are effectively known as the envisioning committee or group, and which includes those few who used the Resource Management Act to apply heritage status to some of the buildings were invited to a special meeting with the Prophet and his associates. In all he said about 15 persons were invited to attend the special meeting. Nil stake presidents or bishops were invited to the meeting.

He said the prophet made several key statements to them at the meeting which were as follows –

1 – The decision to demolish Church College was a mistake and it did not come from the First Presidency.

2 – I am into building things up and not breaking them down.

Ralph informed that  the Apostle Henry B EYRING said to those present that all the CCNZ buildings would remain standing and that the envisioning committee were tasked to flesh out what could best be done with respect to utilising them in the future.

Ralph said the blame lay with the Church Physical Facilitators in Auckland at the time with respect to a fraudulent and deceitful intent by them to demolish the CCNZ buildings ( e nga taonga ) without authority from the First Presidency. Ralph said that the Prophet Thomas S MONSON did not want to go into detail regarding the matter but generalised it in short by simply stating that the move to demolish the buildings was “ a mistake. “

The perpetrators involved were all dismissed from their positions incidental to being found out.

Ralph informed that the Prophet was appreciative of their stand they took in defending the the proposed demolition of the CCNZ buildings as it allowed for an investigation by Church authorities / hierarchy into the matter which revealed that the Church Physical Facilitators in Auckland acted without authority from the First Presidency.

I knew in my heart of hearts at the time when I got wind of the CCNZ buildings being scheduled for demolition that there was something erroneous in the Church’s chain of command because the Holy Ghost told me so, hence my immediate vicious response to save the buildings from destruction.

And though I was shunned, despised, reviled and vilified for so saying by others in the community I knew deep in my heart that I was right and I knew that the Lord knew that I was right purely because I felt the overwhelming clear and concise promptings from the Holy Ghost to go into battle for the preservation of the buildings, at the time.

To have such a confirmation later supported by the Prophet Thomas S MONSON and the Apostle Henry B EYRING is truly humbling, sobering and brings exceedingly, exceedingly great joy to my soul.

The author to demolish the CCNZ buildings no doubt being the adversary himself. I am just grateful a certain few in mortality and no doubt many of the departed spirits in the spirit world

followed the promptings of the true spirit of discernment and as a collective took courage to stand up for what they believed to be true and correct, which has resulted in the preservation of our CCNZ buildings ( e nga taonga ) and which is how I truly believe the Prophet David O Mckay envisaged it to be when he gave the dedicatory prayer for the temple some 52 years or so ago.

Ralph informed that the Prophet and his associates were on Church business in the Asian region when the Prophet under inspiration directed the flight schedule be changed for an impromptu visit to NZ to meet specifically with those in or associated with the envisioning committee who took the courage to save the CCNZ buildings from being demolished.

When Ralph shared the aforementioned with me I felt a huge relief knowing that I had literally put my exaltation on the line to save the CCNZ buildings and at the same time I instantly felt an exceeding great overwhelming bout of joy and humility overcome me. My soul was at peace regarding the matter and my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has consequently been strengthened because of the following insights gleaned along the way –

1 – Trust in the Lord and lean not unto thy own understanding and the right outcome will eventuate.

2 – Faith precedes the miracle.

3 – The intervention and the way it came to pass by the Prophet Thomas S MONSON to sort the issue of the demolition of the CCNZ buildings was absolutely amazing, inspirational and a testimony to me that the Lord and the Prophet are a united cohesive partnership in total unison one with another.( I am so so humbled by the manner, expediency and mode in which the Lord and his Prophet worked together to achieve a resolution on the matter. The Prophet Thomas S MONSON is truly a Prophet of God and is one of my favourite Prophets now ).

4 – Above all is the intervention by the Lord to inspire his servant the Prophet to change his flight schedule and make an impromptu visit to NZ to give a determination on the demolition of the CCNZ buildings so that saints like myself are not left in the dark not knowing the will of the Lord on the matter.

Ralph was essentially visiting Paul to share what the Prophet and Apostle EYRING had expressed at the meeting and to enhance their friendship as Ralph had been criticised by Paul for not supporting the prophet when he Ralph entered into the debate to preserve the CCNZ buildings from being demolished. I was just grateful to be a party to their discussion. I marvel how things went preceding my arrival at Pauls in regards to the uncanny way I was able to be present when Ralph relayed what he had gleaned from the meeting with the Prophet and Apostle EYRING. Was it just a stroke of luck I turned up at the time or meant to be ? The latter I believe, for which I am truly grateful.

This message is not a criticism directed at anyone, or a witch hunt, or an opportunity to be proud or boastful but very much to the contrary. Its essentially an acknowledgement that I do not purposely or intentionally set out to be disobedient to a Prophet of God like I have been accused of doing so by a number of folks in the community in recent times because of my vicious stance I took to preserve the CCNZ buildings from being demolished.

I have a testimony that the truth will set you free from false consequences and information that may come from others. I know that the Holy Ghost prompts one to choose the right even when it appears one may end up in a precarious predicament.

I am far from perfect. We are instructed to “ come unto Christ and be perfected in him, and deny ( ourselves ) of all ungodliness “ ( Moroni 10.32 ), to become “ new creature(s) “ in Christ ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ), to put off “ the natural man “ ( Mosiah 3:19 ) and to experience “ a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually “ ( Mosiah 5:2 ).

I apologise to any whanau members who may have been offended or who may have lost trust and confidence in my ability to sustain church leaders with respect to the stance I took in preserving the CCNZ buildings from being demolished.

I know my stance cut like a two edge sword and was piercing to the hearts of those who took offence in the community yet in the name of truth and light it served a righteous purpose in aiding in the preservation of the CCNZ buildings which are so so dear to me hence – e nga taonga nei ( or they are treasures ). The whakapapa behind them is equally so dear to me because they were built by kind loving servants of the Lord who sacrificed much, which included efforts by our parents, our grandparents and others. Kolo and Nanny sacrificed and freely grew potatoe plantations for and sent pawhara eels from the whakaki lagoon to support Dad and the Labour Missionary Program. Grandad Turake and Nanny Tuhitia freely gave of their possessions to support Mum and Uncle Kap on the Labour Missionary Program and so did so many other pohara whanaungas in the country who had whanau members serving as Labour Missionaries. That heritage and whakapapa is another taonga in and of itself which I am truly proud to be a descendant of and like hell will I stand idly by to see the fruits of the Labour Missionary Program come to nought in my life time by way of an unlawful and deceitful demolition effort which wasn’t sanctioned by the First Presidency of the Church.

Ka arohanui to the Prophets – Joseph SMITH, David O MCKAY, Spencer W KIMBALL ( because he called me to serve in the Philippines and he was known as the Lamanite Prophet in modern times ) and Thomas S  MONSON ( I love him heaps because of his inspired leadership in negating the demolition of the CCNZ buildings ) I can die a happy camper knowing those buildings will not be demolished. My name sake Ariki and others in his age group may yet get their rightful entitlement to attend the CCNZ campus and feel of its neat as wairua is one of my fervent hopes ? I truly believe CCNZ was built for the likes of Ariki’s, Hinaleis and Lola’s generations, and for those spirit children yet to come to earth when one factors in the contents of the dedicatory prayer for the temple given by the Prophet David O MCKAY in 1958 )

Ralph informed that there are discussions around the CCNZ campus being used as an Educational Facility for the age group range 14 years to 20 years. Apparently it is a system currently in place at BYU Provo, Utah ?

Ralph lives at 1 Hamstead Way, which is off Alconbury Drive, which is off Thomas Road, Rototuna / Flag Staff, Hamilton and he welcomes any discussion on the aforementioned and then some if anyone wishes to speak to him direct.

Families are forever. Ka arohanui. Ka ki te ano.

Arohanui. Uncle Rick.

Hallelujah – college can stay

The white concrete block buildings on the old Church College campus in Temple View have been saved from the wrecking ball.

The college campus, west of Hamilton, is one of the best examples of American post-war campus design in the world.

It had been tagged for demolition by its owners, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which closed the school at the end of last year.

The demolition plans sparked a massive reaction from former students and other community members upset that the campus, built in the 1950s, would go.

The campus includes three significant structures: the David O McKay building (housing an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and large auditorium), the Wendel B Mendenhall library, and the Matthew Cowley administration building. It is those buildings the Temple View Heritage Society had been striving to save.

However, after a long campaign to save the buildings from being flattened – led by the Temple View Heritage Society – church officials this week confirmed they had withdrawn their application to Hamilton City Council to demolish the campus.

The church’s decision to withdraw the demolition application is the final step in a major turn-around from the church hierarchy. For months it had maintained the buildings would be removed despite concerns from the city’s Mormon community, city councillors and the New Zealand Institute of Architects.

The church remains in discussions with the council over district plan variations which apply to the Temple View suburb and the old campus, but Utah-based church property administrator Kent Money said the church was now exploring other possible uses for the buildings.

The church was working with an “envisioning committee”, comprising members of the Temple View Heritage Society, Labour Missionaries Association, Church College Alumni Association and members of the Temple View community, to decide the future use of the campus.

Mr Money, who is also chairman of the envisioning committee, said the decision to leave the largest and most significant buildings standing came about after discussions with city representatives and the community.

“There are six buildings we will not demolish, and a good possibility there’ll be many more,” he said.

Mr Money said there were several “very good ideas” touted for future use of the campus, but he was not able to elaborate on what they were.

“We’re looking at several options, and they’re probably more broad than most people would suspect.”

The church would not sell the property, which it was continuing to maintain.

Bob Hamon, chair of the Temple View Heritage Society, said there was both relief and celebration at the decision to shelve demolition plans.

“It’s a very positive signal that the church is actively looking at other options for the school,” Mr Hamon said.

He said the society accepted some of the smaller structures could still be removed, but the main aim had essentially been achieved.

Andrew Bydder, chair of the Waikato Bay of Plenty branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, said the architectural community shared the sense of relief the buildings would be saved.

“The point I have always stressed is that the school is an integral part of that suburb – it’s not just saving the school, it’s saving the suburb.

“It’s good for the whole of New Zealand to recognise we’ve got something special in our midst. Now we’ve just got to find a good use for the buildings.”

Please help educate me.

Watched the video of my cousin Ash Puriri singing the national anthem at the All Blacks vs Wales game. In Maori and English, the two official languages of NZ.

Why is performing the  Haka for a departing missionary,  not permitted at the MTC?

Why is the Maori language not permitted to be spoken in Church.

I called the Church offices in Salt Lake and was told that there are no such language restrictions in any country. Did not mention NZ. It appears that this is a uniquely singular restriction to NZ.

How do we respectfully request a review of these two policies?

Thanks Hugh & Christopher

Ra, I’m sure you are aware of the latest news regarding President Monson’s visit to CCNZ. The following is an excerpt from an article by Christopher A. Moses, of CCNZ and the Church’s Envisioning Committee. In case you had not seen it yet, enjoy it below!

Thanks for all of your hard work on this. Maybe we can have a BYU – New Zealand campus someday!?!?!
Who knows?

VISIT BY PRESIDENT MONSON TO CCNZ

Tuesday 15th June President Thomas S Monson & his counselor President Henry B Eyring & Bishop H David Burton Presiding Bishop made a surpirse visit to the CCNZ campus & community. They were welcomed by the Alumni Cultural group who following their performance brought tears to the eyes of our visitors. A private meeting was held with the members of the Envisioning Committee (which I am included) to discuss possible options for the campus. President Eyring made it clear that demolition was not an option they were considering. President Monson said he believes in building not breaking down. No formal announcements were made though we are expecting once the Envisioning process has been finished that something will be announced in the second half of this year.

USE OF CCNZ FACILITIES
Our leaders are encouraging the church members to use the facilities at the college with any planned chruch activities that may benefit from having access while you visit the temple with your temple groups.

Church rethinks demolition

Waikato Times

Sorry for the interlude

Along with you I have been patiently waiting for further direction related to the new envisioning process. I am rather baffled by the silence and lack of outreach to:

  • engage all of the various stakeholders
  • put all of the facts on the table
  • clear up the myths and inaccuracies of the false engineering reports
  • restitution related to consulting fees paid for ???

It is clear that the vacuum of collaborative dialog is waiting to be filled with light, truth, charity and healthy dose of collective ” study it out in your minds”.

Brother we will miss you!

David Atkinson 3/6/54 ~ 2/5/10 WEST BOUNTIFUL~ David (Rawiri, Jap)

Accountability and Responsibility

Two very interesting words and food for thought.

Can you be accountable and not responsible?

Can you be responsible and not accountable?

How can you be responsible and accountable?

Consider charity and the Good Samaritan.

A Baby Changes Everything

$15 million spent on maintenence over the past 10 years

CCNZ accepted $690,000.00 from the New Zealand government 2005?

Sorry

If integrity, full disclosure and the truth is to be at the foundation of the new Envisioning process, then someone owes the Labor Missionaries and those who came to their defense a formal and written apology. Some where treated very harshly.

Sorry, is the painful but necessary vocabulary of  justice and restitution that allows the healing balm of mercy to do its work.

Without sorry the lies will always remain in the shadows until judgment day. Then it will be too late.

Unity

Let us all be united in our efforts to  expose the fraudulent Beca engineering reports.

They used the labor missionaries as scapegoats to perpetuate their sneaky scheme of diverting sacred tithing funds into their back pockets.

Many myths have been dispelled.

  • The once very dangerous David O McKay Building, unfit for occupancy unless we spent $60 million is now miraculously safe and sound.
  • We knew that they were not telling the truth.
  • Spend $4 million to attach the Temple walls to the foundations
  • Thanks to the many detailed pictures another gross misrepresentation has been exposed

The labor missionaries followed the detailed plans.

The approved  Temple renovation plan to spend $4 million to connect the walls to the foundations has been canceled.

Gratitude

If it was not for the Ngapuhi Iwi, there would be a ring fence around the school in preparation to knock it to the ground on January 1st 2010.

The demolition process has been delayed.

Instead we have names being submitted for the Envisioning Committee.

Certainly we can all find something to be grateful for. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

Words and sticks and stones

If acts of omission, hiding the truth, false reports, hypocrisy and spin were swear words, mill stones or a bad smell …………  well pass the soap, the air freshener and call the life guards.

Let us all stop judging, pull our heads out of the sand and focus on the real issues at hand, as difficult as they may be.

You have to separate the oil from the water to make lemonade.

Don’t judge the smoker because he smokes. If our sins were like smoke all of us would have a chimney on our heads. The good Samaritan was a smoker.

The Pharisees who  moved to the other side of the road as they passed the beaten and robbed traveler without stopping to help were being obedient non smokers, hurrying on their way to the synagogue . Ironically to listen to a sermon about being charitable . Blindly obedient to the letter of the law of conformity.

The good Samaritan was being obedient to a higher law. The law of charity and love. He listened to his heart, exercised his individual free agency and chose to stop and lend a helping hand. In the world but not of the world and apart from the clamoring crowd who only talk the talk to each other.

The core essence of the gospel, is the daily application of the teachings of Jesus Christ in how we treat other people, regardless of whether it is popular or cool. The Good Samaritan was following the commandment of, love thy neighbor as thy self. Silently and without any fanfare walking the walk.

The Department of Temporal Affairs

A delay in the demolition of CCNZ …

If the envisioning committees only purpose is to decide what should be built after we knock everything to the ground, then here are several issues to consider.

  1. The DTA continues to turn a blind eye to the fraudulent Beca engineering reports.
  2. The buildings are safe and sound.
  3. Can we please be truthful about this fact and stop beating around the bush.
  4. I know that this is painful … but sacred tithing funds, the widows mite, your hard earned money and mine has been STOLEN.
  5. Demolition is not a given.
  6. It is a process that will turn the road back to the public hearings and requests for full public disclosure.
  7. This could take years.
  8. The expanded historic protection and the notice from the Iwi are real, relevant and legally sound.
  9. Lets not waste everyone’s time by pretending that demolition is a fore gone conclusion
  10. Let honesty, the truth, the facts, integrity, charity and transparency be on the committee and on the table.
  11. If they are not then we are all wasting our time going through the motions of a PR exercise.
  12. Just as we have done for 4 years.
  13. WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Would Jesus hide the engineering report to protect Beca from accountability………………absolutely NOT!

CCNZ Demolition Application …part 1

2003 Beca Structural Engineering Report Review

The gymnasium floor has only a nominal connection to the surrounding slender walls ….

The labor missionaries followed the detailed plans and strongly tied the gymnasium floors to the very substantial foundations. This claim is inaccurate and false.

The auditorium suspended cieling has no siesmic bracing …..

This claim is quite remarkable when you review the detailed plans, and see the pictures of the extensive seismic bracing. This claim is false.

Structural Engineering Proofs

This is the first of several engineering proofs submitted to the Church Auditing Department in SLC. They conducted an independent audit of the Beca Engineering report. Their findings have influenced the decision to delay the demolition of the school.

The buildings are solid as a rock because they were built by kind hands who loved the Lord. They were looking far into the future, to how their combined efforts would bless future generations.

The walls are not connected to the foundations?

This claim is so fantastic as to imply that the labor missionaries, their supervisors and the architect were all absolutely incompetent fools who wasted their time. Who in their right mind would build any building of any size and not connect the walls to the foundations. Beca incorrectly assumed that no one would care to check the accuracy of their claims.

DTA …. Department of Temporal Affairs

Moving forward into the new envisioning process, I would suggest that we consider adopting some new phrases and acronyms to protect “The Church” and it’s leaders.  It will more accurately reflect the significant role of the Department of Temporal Affairs or DTA.  DTA is the business unit responsible for real estate management and the expenditure of building funds in New Zealand.

This will improve communication, collaboration and allow everyone to focus on the facts and issues of the heart instead of the label on the other persons sleeve.

And it is a lot easier to write DTA.

A new envisioning process ………….

I hope that the new envisioning process will be built on a foundation of truth, transparency and full disclosure of the following:

  • a clearly inaccurate and unprofessional 54 page demolition application which has now been withdrawn
  • how hundreds of thousands of dollars of sacred tithing funds, the widows mite, were paid over many years to Beca for a fraudulent and unsupportable structural engineering report on CCNZ?
  • the millions in remodeling projects, over several decades, directed by Beca are now all suspect.
  • overnight the college buildings are miraculously safe and sound for use by the public for another 12 to 24 months
  • not $1 has been spent to fix the walls that are not connected to the foundations with steel rebar!
  • public outcry has now saved “the church” $4,000,000.000 ( four million dollars) in all ready approved work that was going to be spent on the Temple and the Fosters Rd Chapel.
  • According to Beca’s report both of these buildings are in worse structural shape than the David O McKay Building.
  • how were millions spent on these phantom projects that could have gone to other worthy purposes, such as supporting missionaries?

Let’s make a very clear distinction that will help all of us into the future:

  • there is a difference between the” Church” and the “Department of Temporal Affairs,
  • the Church is in the business of saving souls, a hospital of sorts for all of us
  • the DTA or Department of temporal Affairs is a  business that is in the business of managing real estate assets, saving money and making wise and prudent investments.
  • The DTA occupies space in this hospital as well
  • a Bishop, Stake President and Sunday School teacher are not paid.
  • employees of the DTA are paid, this is their work and means of supporting their families.
  • this money comes from many faithful members who sacrifice to pay their tithes and offerings to the Lord
  • there is a sacred stewardship connected to how the widows mite is spent.

Demolition put off for 12 to 24 months

Letter from the Presiding Bishopric ….   (Dated October 27th)

Letter from the Area Presidency ….  (Dated November 26th)

The Hamilton City council did not ask the Church Real Estate Dept (CRDT) for an extension of the resource consent process.

The council has been frustrated by a lack of response to their questions and inquiries for several months.

Yesterday at the resource consent hearing,  council members were amazed that there was no one in attendance representing the CRDT. “Perhaps they don’t care’” was a comment heard in the council chamber.

The CRDT did send a letter requesting that a scheduled vote to expand the heritage overlay protection be postponed. This was denied  unanimously and the vote went forward as planned.

The expanded heritage protection was approved unanimously , and has now been placed over the entire school.

Workship

This word describes the difficult challenge faced by many employees of the Church.

The grey area between work and worship. The gospel and the general ledger.

When do I put on the hat as a business professional or a messenger of God. Are they the same hats or separate? Do my business decisions, due diligence, engineering evaluations and financial analysis carry more weight, credibility and accuracy because I am employed by the Church.

I do not need to question other Church employees about their work because I will be questioning God.

I do not need to answer your questions because I/we work for the Church.

The Church has decided that it will not release the video tape of the public meeting held at the GRB in July of 2009? Who is the Church? Who made this decision and why?

Does the Church have any guidlines for its employees on how they are to conduct themselves when they are at work and not at Church on Sunday?

Tribe delays knock down of Church College

In todays Waikato Times

From the sandbox in the backyard

In the house the curtains are still drawn and doors locked. But you can not hide anything from the man upstairs …………………..

  • Families in the nine practice houses, have been told they can stay longer
  • School will not be ring fenced
  • Stakes may be allowed to use the facilities for conferences etc
  • Secret meetings held with NZHPT, to remove historic overlays, were not authorized by the Church.
  • Concerns over personal safety, threat to life and limb from the poorly constructed buildings, seems to be slowly fading.
  • The labor missionaries followed every detail of the custom drafted and engineered plans by Edward O Anderson.
  • Beca and Osborne Hay owe all of us an explanation … such are the requirements of integrity and truth.
  • So many lives turned upside down.
  • 3 years of precious time, lost human resources and financial capital.
  • Two public hearing tracks are now firmly in place, in which all of these issues will finally see the light of day.
  • So we can all live, learn and move forward with unity, transparency and charity.

Hamilton City has officially recognized the heritage order request from Ngapuhi Iwi.

Subject: Update on LDS Earth works and Ngapuhi Heritage Order 4th November 09

Good morning Councillors, further to my recent update on the LDS earthworks consent. Staff were preparing to issue the earthworks consent for a modified proposal when we received the heritage order request from Ngapuhi Iwi. The earthworks consent has not been issued as the Ngapuhi request potentially raises relevant matters.

The Ngapuhi request appeared to ask Council to put in place a heritage order under the RMA. This would be a similar process to a notified application. The information provided by Ngapuhi would be the basis for the request. It appears that they are seeking a heritage order for all the LDS land and buildings at Temple view.

Ngapuhi are a Northland Iwi however the RMA provides for any Iwi to request a council to progress a heritage order (S187B). Both NaMTOK and Tainui have been advised and will provide input as to their views in due course.

The Ngapuhi request has not been formally processed. We have asked for further information about what they are actually requesting as the documents were not clear. We have not yet heard back from Ngapuhi.

If they respond with a clear request that Council progress a heritage order under S187b of the RMA then Council will have to consider the request. This does not mean that Council has to grant the request. Given the public interest in this matter we would follow a similar process to a notified application and call for submissions, hear submitters then make a decision.

Our initial view would be that Council already has a number of processes in train (Variation 7 and 15) and a scheduled hearing date for the demolition resource consent. These are more than adequate to allow any relevant heritage issues to be identifed and validated. This view may be modified by submissions received.

In summary, the earthworks consent has not been issued and is currently on hold. We are expecting a revised request from Ngapuhi asking Council to progress a heritage order over Temple view. When this arrives, staff will advise Council of an appropriate process to follow and any implications on current processes.

We understand that this may be the first time this provision of the RMA has been used so we need to travel with some care. Thank you.

It is past the 11th hour and counting. Three years, 4 months, 18 hours ………….

We are still patiently waiting on the outside for an invitation to the envisioning process that is unfolding on the inside.

And wait we shall!

Open letter to the Church

Dear Brethren,

As the time for General Conference approaches, I would like to make one last plea that the comments I make and indeed those made by so many others in the recent past might be passed on for consideration by our Church leaders.

I will send this E Mail to as many interested parties as I can, in the hope that a better way forward can be found in this now somewhat unhappy matter.

I am more than a little concerned that there is a belief that opposition to the proposed plans for Church College is limited to a small group of vocal dissidents. Please be assured this is not the case. As the time for the closure for Church College and its planned demolition draws ever closer so does the realisation that something tragic is about to happen. Very few people have a good feeling about this.

Please consider the following points:

1. A significant number of people in our community either currently work at Church College while others work for the wider church in various capacities not unexpectedly they will be restrained in their comments.

2. A survey conducted in April/May of this year represented the views of 400 people, 80% of whom were against current plans for the college.

3. Response to the Churches application for resource consent to demolish the protected buildings on the campus, was described in a recent Hamilton City Council meeting as unprecedented. Once again nearly 80% of respondents were against the application.

Having been involved in sport at Church College for the last 6 years I cannot help but be impressed by the spirit and determination of our young people. They are the best of examples and great missionaries. Visitors to our school are incredulous when they learn that the school that they are so impressed with is going to be demolished.

I am constantly reminded of the 13th Article of Faith especially the last sentence ” If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.”

Often when there are differences of opinion in matters a win win situation can be arrived at through the consideration of alternatives and listening to others opinions. A non member of our church recently commented to me that he could not understand the current intentions as there were no winners only losers. How has it come to this.

There are many options for the future of the campus which will allow the church to achieve its stated aims and will at the same time provide a far better outcome for our local community and the church community as a whole in New Zealand.

Personally I feel the best use for the Church College campus is as a school. I accept that the Church no longer wishes to be involved, however this should not exclude the potential for it to be run a a state special character school. It has the potential to be a wonderful and unique institution as Church College has been for the last 51 years. It is true that our public school system here in New Zealand is a good one.

It is also true that many LDS parents are happy to are happy for their children to go through the public school system. Similarly it is true that many parents and indeed students want

the kind of experience that only Church College or a like minded school can offer. There will always be a demand in the LDS community and in the wider community for such a school.

Surely there is a way forward here where we as members of the church can achieve mutually positive outcomes. Whilst it is at the moment fortunate from our perspective that our free democratic society here in New Zealand provides us with avenues to have the plans for Church College more thoroughly examined there must be a better way.

Sincerely,

Your Brother.

While CCNZ was slipping gradually into its very sad state of  disrepair……..

$ millions were being spent on this Taj Mahal like camp in Heber Valley.

Full on kitchens with stainless steel sinks, ovens and walk in coolers, bunk houses and hot showers.

Redefining camping and the wilderness experience ……. just like home.

Spiritual Ecology

The doctrines of Jesus Christ are so powerful that any one of these doctrines, having been broken away from the rest, goes wild and mad, as G. K. Chesterton observed. The principle of love without the principles of justice and discipline goes wild. Any doctrine, unless it is woven into the fabric of orthodoxy, goes wild. The doctrines of the kingdom need each other just as the people of the kingdom need each other.

Hamilton Mayor invokes closed session to discuss demolition of CCNZ in secret

A political process that excludes the inquiring minds of the public and the press, under the guise of confidentiality is always suspect.

Who, how, when and why have the  Mayor and the City Council  closed the door of transparency and sent the public out of the council chambers?

Is it out of fear of opening a legal Pandora’s Box?

From the developers guide 101 section 2.3:

The phantom hammer, or very subtle implication of  a potentially very costly legal battle brings many public bodies to their knees.

Councillor urges more transparency over Church College talks

In todays Waikato Times

Secret talks going on everywhere between the Church and ….

  1. New Zealand Historic Places Trust
  2. Hamilton City Council
  3. The Mayor of Hamilton
  4. PR firm calling Temple View residents and offering them $65.00 to attend a 4 person private envisioning session.

The first secret envisioning meeting was held at the Kai Hall, a month ago, for invited guests only. My aunt was turned away from the meeting because her name was not on the list.

The meeting was video taped, but now the Church will not release the video tape for others to see, because the meeting did not go as scripted.

PR and scripting, love and charity.

The secret deal between the DTA & NZHPT

The DTA has negotiated a secret deal with New Zealand Historic Places Trust. (NZHPT)

To remove the protective overlay which has allowed the submissions and public hearing process to move forward.

Not sure why this has happened ………. unless the plan is to stop and derail the planned public hearings.

The NZHPT director told me that they could no longer support saving a building that would cost $60 million to fix and repair.

Another fine job by the consultants in perpetuating the myths and the big lies.

The truth is so important!
